hope and despair

hope and despair
Liminal 738 (detail), work in progress

It is possible to hold both at the same time. The daffodils are coming up here in Portland, and the birds are feeding eagerly as the weather turns colder. There is a gorgeous red headed hummingbird sipping nectar from the feeder as I write this now. And, I walk through the neighborhood between rain storms and weep with despair for how much is shifting for all of us. I also feel fear for all of the changes that are yet to be felt here, but that I know are coming down hard on many people yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Power and greed (and cruelty) seeming to take the day, but lots of pushback as well. And also, life will go on. We will go on, together. I'm taking small actions (kindness and generosity wherever I can) as well as doing some political action (phone calls to representatives) to help with pushback as I can.

What are you doing? And how are you feeling?

Here's Paul Krugman on recent happenings, for some of the despair

And more brilliant Rebecca Solnit for some hope?
